Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif along with his sons and mother called on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Adiala Jail on Saturday. Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Salman Shahbaz and Shamim Akhter met with Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in the room of the jail superintendent. The meeting continued for one hour and twenty minutes.
Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir on July 6 sentenced Sharif for 10 years, Maryam Nawaz for seven years and Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) for one year in Avenfield reference. According to a notification issued by Ministry of Law and Justice, the Accountability Court will conduct trial in Flagship Investment and Al-Azizia Steel Mills references in Adiala Jail.
Earlier, legal team of Nawaz Sharif and his personal security guard also met the former prime minister in the jail. Police sources said that legal team of Sharif, including Barrister Saad Hashmi and Advocate Zafar Khan, met with him in the presence of superintendent of Adiala Jail. Sources further said that Malik Atta, personal security guard of Sharif, visited him in the jail.
They said that legal team went to attain the power of attorney so that an appeal could be filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC), adding that Sharif's legal team is likely to file an appeal against the Accountability Court verdict tomorrow. Official sources said that Sharif complained about lack of facilities in the cell provided to him in the jail during the meeting.
Sources told that Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, who were arrested by NAB team at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, were given B class facilities in the Jail. As per the rules, class B consists of prisoners who by social status, education or habit of life have been accustomed to a superior mode of living. Habitual prisoners can be included in this class through an order of the government.
It is learnt that usually A or B class prisoners are educated and teach the uneducated prisoners. They do not do hard labour and can be engaged in useful work which is defined as rigorous punishment in their case.
The rooms of class B prisoners are usually equipped with one cot, one chair, one teapot, one lantern, if there is no electric light, brief shelf and necessary washing and sanitary appliances. Monitoring Desk adds: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam have been allotted prisoner numbers at Adiala Jail, Aaj News reported on Saturday.
"The prisoner number 3421 goes to Nawaz Sharif and 3422 to Maryam Nawaz," according to the news channel.
