Reacting to the decision of caretaker government to conduct the trial of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam in Flagship and Investment references in Adiala Jail, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the decision is against the spirit of law, as "jail trial" is conducted of terrorists.
"I have heard Nawaz's and Maryam's trial will be held in Adiala jail. This tantamount to disgracing the sanctity of justice," Shahbaz said while addressing a news conference at the PML-N Secretariat on Saturday. He said, undoubtedly, India is involved in creating unrest in the country. In the past, it remained involved in subversive activities as happened in Mustong.
The PML-N president said the trial of Nawaz was not even held in jail in 1999 when former military ruler Pervez Musharraf had made a plane hijacking case against him. He said the PML-N will defend its leader and his daughter by exhausting all legal forums.
AJK PM Raja Farooq Haider, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Saad Rafique, Zahid Hamid, Mushahid Hussein Syed, Marriyum Aurangzeb and other PML-N leaders were also present on the occasion.
The PML-N leader took strong exception of Imran Khan's statement that whenever there is difficult time for Nawaz Sharif, there is surge in acts of terrorism. "Ilzam Khan the nation knows your real face. You used to blame army while sitting in London."
Regarding the statement of Imran that "only donkeys would come to receive Nawaz," Shahbaz said: "This is the real face of a so-called leader. After this statement, the PTI people must revolt against him."
The PML-N President expressed gratitude to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for slamming arrests of the PML-N workers and locking down Lahore to contain the PML-N workers. He added that democratic and political forces would have to work together for securing the country's future.
Referring to the PML-N's Friday rally, Shahbaz said that the people in a large number came out to welcome their leader Nawaz. The leadership had promised a peaceful rally and we fulfilled this promise despite police hurdles, crackdowns, lathi charge and tear gas shelling at party workers.
He said cases were registered against him and senior leadership of the party, adding that clauses pertaining to 'terrorism' were also included against them.
Shahbaz said that he will soon give a call for a peaceful protest across the country. The PML-N workers will protest in election campaigns wearing black armbands.
Shahbaz maintained that that the country's future is linked with free and fair elections as only a democratic government can guarantee eradication of terrorism and putting the country on the path of progress and prosperity through economic uplift. He said he is confident that they can beat India in different fields through hard work.
He urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to use its authority and take necessary steps to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. Despite all injustices we are in the field for the sake of Pakistan and make it in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam.
