Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Fazal-ur-Rehman emphasized on massive afforestation and said it's the best option to make Sindh clean, green and a moderate climatic region to ensure healthy environment. He expressed these views while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of monsoon tree plantation by planting Neem Tree sapling in the premises of NJV School on Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by Forest Minister Khair Muhammad Junejo, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Additional Chief Secretary Forest & Wildlife Sohail Akbar Shah and other concerned officers, members of civil society and officials of Wildlife and Forest department.
He stressed on massive planting of native trees across the province of Sindh to combat and avert the severe heat waves as observed in Sindh during May - June 2018, in result of climate change effects. He conveyed clear message to district administration, local government administration, education, health, Irrigation, Works & Services, Police and other departments to undertake tree planting in the premises under their domain / administrative control.
The Minister of Forests & Wildlife urged all residents of Sindh province to plant more and more trees to ameliorate the environment of Sindh.
The Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Wildlife Department apprised the chief minister that this time Forest Department was organizing and leading the campaign with zeal and spirit as an independent Social Forestry wing has been established headed by an independent Chief Conservator of Forests in result of reorganization and restructuring of Sindh Forest Department.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Fazal-ur- Rehman reviewing the progress of on-going mega projects launched under Karachi package, directed PD Karachi to start beautification of Submarine Underpass and Sunset-Gizri Boulevard Flyover. The projects have been completed but their beautification work is yet to start.
The chief minister reviewed all the 31 mega projects and said after completion, projects must be maintained properly. He directed P&D chairman Mohammad Waseem to workout a plan Maintenance and Repair (M&R) of the projects completed in the city recently.
The chief minister also directed PD Karachi package to completed Karachi Zoological garden renovation. "This is one of the best recreational places for our kids," he said.
