28 Jul, 2018

Afaq Ahmed, Chairman Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM) Friday announced to step down from the party chairmanship over the humiliating defeat in the general elections 2018. "I accept the responsibility of the defeat of the party in the polls and announce to resign from party chairmanship," Afaq announced at a press conference. He also called for a new leadership of the party and said that he wants to promote the democratic culture in the party by stepping down from the chairmanship over the dismal performance of MQM, which is commonly known as MQM-Haqiqi.
Though the party workers present during the press conference chanted the slogans of "No, No" Afaq refused to withdraw his decision and said that he is not kind of person, who changes his decision. He noted that leadership of the party can also err and should accept its mistake. He vowed to work for the party in the capacity of workers and emphasized upon the workers to constitute a managing committee to strengthen the party.
Afaq said that he cautioned the people doing politics on Mohajir card that the city is being snatched away and the general election proved my apprehensions. He said that general elections in Karachi were engineered to secure the favourable results. However, he admitted the weaknesses that can't prevent the conspiracies against the mandate of Karachi.
Afaq described the role of MQM as democratic and noted that allegations levelled against him and his party are now a matter of past. He said that if the results of the elections were manipulated and decisions were made somewhere else, people's trust in ballot would evaporate. Afaq Ahmed also complained about non-issuance of Form 45 to the polling agents and said that counting was made in the presence of polling agents.
