Fazl for recounting of votes across country

01 Aug, 2018

President Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, Maulana Fazlur Rehman has asked for vote recount in all the constituencies of the country. Addressing a press conference after chairing a meeting of the MMA here on Tuesday, he alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as the largest political party "only as a result of rigging," saying the PTI should refrain from forming a cabinet before the prime minister is elected as it does not have majority.
He said that 'meddling' by establishment in election process has created mistrust between national institutions and the people of the country; therefore, it is the need of the hour that 'national institution' should not interfere in elections.
He also said the chairman PTI should practically honour his words of not opposing vote recount in various constituencies. The MMA chief said that "blatant rigging" paved the way for PTI's victory in the elections. He demanded the Election Commission to reopen "every single constituency."
"We demand that every constituency be opened and that the government should not be formed on the basis of the current results," he said. Fazl said that after a detailed discussion among leaders of the alliance "we have also decided to ask the ECP for the thumb verification of all votes so that every doubt of complainants must be addressed."
"When PTI does not have the majority, other parties have the right to attempt to form the government," Rehman said. Showing flexibility over his previous stance of not taking oath in the new National Assembly. On the other hand, the American government is over the moon on MMA's defeat in recent held national elections but "we are seriously concerned whom the army chief considers the enemy which must be explained," Maulana said.
