The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is considering an option to make leader of the Pakistan Muslim league-Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as speaker of Punjab Assembly, it has been learnt.
Elahi had already announced to retain the seat of Punjab Assembly relinquishing both seats of the National Assembly. He told a TV channel that he would vacate the National Assembly seats from Gujrat and Chakwal and would take oath as member of the Punjab Assembly.
Moonis Elahi will contest election on the vacant seat of Gujrat while in Chakwal the candidate for bye election would be announced by Chaudhry Shujaat after consultation with the party, he revealed. He said he would get a major responsibility in Punjab due to his previous performance and administrative experience.
While the PTI is claiming majority in the Punjab Assembly, the sources said the PTI leadership desirous to bring Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
On the other hand, the PML-N is cautious in showing its cards. The PML-N leader Tallal Chaudhry has criticized the PTI's reported decision to bring PML-Q leader Pervaiz Elahi as its candidate for the slot of Punjab Assembly speaker.
