Caretaker Law and Information Minister Syed Ali Zafar Wednesday said that National Assembly session is likely to be summoned between August 12 and August 14 in view of taking oath of newly-elected MNAs. He said a summary in this regard has been submitted.
Addressing media persons here, Zafar said that it was the interim government's crucial responsibility to ensure holding of elections in the country on time. The appointment of speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly will also take place during the first session, he added.
According to the law, the new session of National Assembly is supposed to be called before August 15; however, the session could not be summoned unless a notification is issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he said.
The minister said that according to the election body, the delay in election results occurred due to failure of Results Transmission System (RTS), which an inquiry into the matter would prove.
On August 2, the ECP had written to the Cabinet Division asking to constitute a committee for probing the malfunctioning of election results software. Amid severe criticism, the ECP had blamed the RTS collapse for the unusual delay in the results on the Election Day.
