The Karachi Port handled 93,795 tonnes of cargo comprising 69,910 tonnes of import cargo and 23,885 tonnes of export cargo including 2,557 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 69,910 tonnes comprised of 22,396 tonnes of containerised cargo; 14,030 tonnes of bulk cargo; 5,596 tonnes of soyabean seeds; 15,128 tonnes of DAP and 12,760 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 23,885 tonnes comprised of 7,882 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,261 tonnes of wheat and 8,742 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,557 containers comprising of 1,359 containers import and 1,198 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 619 of 20's and 338 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 32 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 193 of 20's and 107 of 40's loaded containers while 151 of 20's and 320 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were eight ships namely Piraeus, MS Tiger, Kota Kaya, Bomar Hermes, Athens Bridge, MT Shalamar, Atlantas-II and Glovis Splendor carrying containers, oil tanker, molasses and vehicle respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were four vessels viz. Ever Deluxe, Kota Kaya, Chemway Gaia and Alpine Persefone carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.
The total import cargo of 79,177 tonnes includes 26,000 tonnes of LNG; 5,780 tonnes of palm oil; 14,546 tonnes of steel coil; 10,376 tonnes of soyabean; 3,000 tonnes of chemical and 19,475 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 43,187 tonnes includes 43,187 tonnes of containerised cargo.
As many as 3,309 containers comprising of 2,273 containers import and 1,036 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
There were four ships namely CV MOL Grandeur, CV Maersk Columbus, MV Al Mahboobah and MT LNG Lobita carrying containers, chemical and LNG respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely CV MSC Athos and MT Solaman Hestia carrying containers and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of nine vessels viz. CV Maersk Columbus, CV MOL Grandeur, CV MSC Athos, MV New Confidence, MV BTG Fuji, MV Al Mahboobah, MT LNG Lobita, MT Solaman Hestia and MT Concerto were currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, soyabean, steel coil, coal, chemical, LNG and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as nine ships namely MV Orion-III, MV RB Leah, MV Cecilia-B, MV Sakizaya Miracle, MT Athina, MT Pike, MT Meltemi, MT Al-Salam-II and MT Al-Soor-II carrying soyabean, rape seeds and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
There were two vessels viz. CV Tempanos and MV Argent Hibiscus carrying containers and chemical respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday. There was one ship namely CV Tempanos carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday, while two more ships namely CV CMA CGM New Jersey and CV Hansa America carrying containers are due to arrive on Friday.
