Burning of girls' schools

11 Aug, 2018

Cowards are now targeting schools; they are setting them on fire with a view to causing panic and fear among the school goers and their parents. What happened in Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) in the early hours of a week ago is just shocking. A dozen schools, 10 of them for girls, and an Army public school located in different areas were torched by unknown miscreants. Considering that so many schools were destroyed or damaged at the same time in a widespread area shows it was the handiwork of a large group. A press report points out that such attacks have taken place in the past as well, in one case a girls' school in a Chilas village was torched five times in the years 2015, 2011, and 2004.
It is interesting to note that the Chief Justice of Pakistan has pointed out that the schools came under attack when the apex court underscored the construction of more dams, including Diamer-Basha dam, in the country. The terrorists have no idea that building new dams in the country is a nation resolve; it can also be described as the national cause.
