The newly-elected members of the provincial legislature are set to take their oath, as the first sitting of Sindh Assembly is due on Monday, August 13. Acting Sindh governor Aga Siraj Khan Durrani has summoned the Sindh Assembly session at 10 a.m. Monday for oath-taking of the newly-elected legislators. In the second sitting, the house will elect speaker and deputy for assembly on Wednesday, August 15. The elected members will choose leader of the house on August 17, who will take oath the same evening as new chief minister of the province.
The PPP has already nominated Syed Murad Ali Shah as its candidate in the ellection of chief ministership After Muhammad Zubair resigned as Sindh governor, Speaker Sindh Assembly, Aga Siraj Khan Durrani is now serving as acting governor, who now cannot chair the new sitting; hence he is expected to assign the task of oath administration to someone else in the house.
The PTI with 22 directly-elected members are the largest party of the opposition bloc in the house and in a position to get the slot of leader of the opposition with the support from its would-be coalition partner at the Centre- the MQM and the PML-F that has also assured PTI leaders of its support.
