Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar clarified on Thursday that he a day earlier referred to constitution of joint investigation team (JIT) for Dawn Leaks by former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and it was not meant for the Panama Leaks JIT. Heading a three-judge bench, he expressed annoyance over media reports that the CJP said Ch Nisar constituted JIT for Panama Leaks, which included officials of Military Intelligence (MI) and Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI).
"If in yesterday (Wednesday) hearing I stated mistakenly that Chaudhry Nisar set up a JIT on Panama Leaks then the media persons present in the courtroom should have reported correctly. I meant the Dawn Leaks JIT." The channels did programmes on it, he added. He also said that military officials included in the JIT solely due to the bench's decision.
The Military Intelligence and Inter-Services Intelligence personnel who were part of the Dawn Leaks inquiry committee were included in the Panama Papers JIT by the five-judge bench. Chaudhry Nisar issued a statement Wednesday denying any involvement in the formation of the JIT for the Panama Papers case.
