Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain Thursday appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a case related to assets and wealth beyond means. Shujaat reached regional office of NAB at about 11am and remained there for about one hour and 30 minutes. The NAB officials posed questions to Shujaat and he responded to the same, the sources said. The NAB had summoned Chaudhry Shujaat and his cousin Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for investigation relating to a case for possessing assets beyond their means.
The Chaudhrys from Gujrat are facing inquiries of allegedly owning assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. Pervaiz Elahi, however, did not appear before the NAB as he was busy in Punjab Assembly where he was elected as Speaker of Punjab Assembly by securing 201 votes.
Earlier, Chaudhry brothers had also appeared in this case. According to sources in the NAB Lahore office, a number of shares have surfaced in various companies under the name of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, his cousin Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and their family. Other than the shares, details of transactions of hefty sums to different banks under their names have also emerged.
The NAB sources said the Chaudhry brothers have failed to submit verified details of their assets. If they do not submit the required records, the NAB would initiate an inquiry against them under Schedule-II.
