Prices of essential kitchen items witness decline

Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a decline during this week past as compared to preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed that during the week under review, prices of most of vegetables, chicken and fruits registered a downward trend, while prices of non-perishable items remained stable.
Onion price went down from Rs 170 to Rs 150 per 5kg in the wholesales market which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40-45 per kg against Rs 45-50 per kg. Gilgit-Baltistan potatoes were being sold at Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail market were being sold at Rs 40 per kg, while Punjab potatoes were being sold at Rs 80 per 5kg against Rs 130 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 20 per kg. Tomatoes price witnessed a significant decline from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg against Rs 70-75 per kg.
Prices of various qualities of garlic went down from Rs 600-650 per 5kg to Rs 300-350 per 5kg to in wholesales market which in retail market were being sold at Rs 70-90 per kg against Rs 130-150 per kg. Ginger price went down from Rs 850 per 5kg to Rs 650 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 150-160 per kg against Rs 200 per kg. Lemon price went down from Rs 550 per 5kg to Rs 450 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100-120 per kg against Rs 130 per kg.
Live chicken price went down from Rs 4,700 per 40kg to Rs 3,800 per 40 kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 110-120 per kg against Rs 145-150 per kg and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 250 per kg. The eggs prices remained stable at wholesale and retail markets at Rs 85 per dozen and Rs 95 per dozen respectively. Beef was being sold at Rs 500 per kg and mutton at Rs 950 per kg.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 450 per 5kg to Rs 380 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 110-115 per kg; taro (arvi) price came down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg which in retail market was still being sold at Rs 50 per. No change was observed in Chinese carrot price which was available at Rs 200 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 50 per kg.
Bean price went down from Rs 400 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 80-85 per kg against Rs 90-100 per kg, okra price went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg; and price of ridge gourd (tori) further went down from Rs 220 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40-45 per kg against Rs 55 per kg. Turnip price went further down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 170 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40-45 per kg against Rs 50 per kg; Maroo kaddu price went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 60 per kg; loki kaddu price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.
Tinda was available at Rs 200 per 5kg while in retail market it is being sold at Rs 50 per kg. Cauliflower price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 65 per kg and cabbage is available at Rs 300 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 80 per kg.
Brinjal price went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg in wholesale market which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 60 per kg; peas price went down from Rs 750 per 5kg to Rs 650 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 150-160 per kg against Rs 180 per kg; and cucumber price remained stable at Rs 180 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg. Karela (bitter gourd) price came down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40-45 per kg against Rs 60-65 per kg.
Prices of all the major pulses remained stable as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 120 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range Rs 80-100 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 80 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg. Sugar price remained stable at Rs 2,620 per 50kg bag which in retail is being sold at Rs 58 per kg. Packed milk price was found stable at Rs 1,550 per carton and tea price also witnessed no change.
Fruit prices remained stable as Gaja apple was available at Rs 60-75 per kg, local good quality banana at Rs 75 per dozen, and normal quality banana was available in the range of Rs 45-60 per dozen. Good quality guava was being sold at Rs 55 per kg and its normal quality was available in the range of Rs 40-45 per kg against Rs 50-60 per kg.
Best quality mangoes were being sold in the range of Rs 100-120 per kg, while normal quality mangoes were available in the range of Rs 70-90 per kg. Chinese and other imported apples were being sold in the range of Rs 250-300 per kg. Various qualities of peaches were available in the range of Rs 60-70 per kg, plump at Rs 120-150 per kg and various qualities of grapes were being sold at Rs 100-200 per kg. Sweet orange was available at Rs 80-100 per kg, Quetta apricot was available at Rs 80-100 per kg, Chinese pear at Rs 140-180 per kg and Pakistani pear was being sold at Rs 75 per kg. Pakistani cantaloupe was available at Rs 40 per kg and Kabli cantaloupe was being sold at Rs 55 per kg.
