Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is unlikely to extend support to the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) nominated candidate for presidential election Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan. The way the PPP had ditched the PML-N nominees in the elections of the PM and Punjab CM elections, a number of the PML-N leaders have ruled out any possibility of reconciliation with the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) for the upcoming presidential election, the sources said.
According to them, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan had used negative remarks against the PML-N leadership; hence, the party cannot support such a person. As far as the PPP's offer to support the PML-N in the Senate is concerned, it cannot be trusted. On the contrary, the offer to accept Shehbaz Sharif as opposition leader was outlandish. "We don't need their support to make Shehbaz opposition leader" sources quoted a PML-N leader having said this. Former federal minister and PML-N leader Mohammad Pervaiz Malik MNA said, "It is not a matter of ego for the PML-N. It is more about principles."
He said, "If the PPP is serious in seeking the PML-N's support, it should have consulted the option in an APC rather than making a solo decision." He said the PML-N would definitely keep the PPP's track record in view before taking any decision. The final decision will be taken by the PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif after due consideration, he added.
