President, Site Association of Industry (SAI), Muhammad Jawed Bilwani urged Sindh Chief Secretary Major Azam Suleman Khan (retd) to revise the notification regarding public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Azha to observe three days holidays from 21-23 August 2018 instead of 21-24 August 2018 in line with the notification issued by federal government.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary, he drew his attention towards Eidul Azha holiday notification issued by the federal government dated 15th August as well as the notification of Punjab government issued on 17th whereby they announced three-day holiday from August 21 to 23. He said that KP and Balochistan government reportedly also followed the notification of the federal government.
On the other hand, he noted, Sindh Labour department's 17th August notification declared Eidul Azha holidays from August 21 to 24, which, SAI president said, was discriminatory for export industries operating in Karachi/Sindh as compared to industries operating in all other parts of Pakistan which would observe three holidays. "Consequently, the overheads of export industries of Karachi would multiply and they will have to give double over-time to their employees as the export industries are operated even on holidays to complete the export orders," he pointed out. Bilwani said it was surprising that the industries of Karachi were not taken prior to that decision on board despite the fact that they are the largest employment providers.
