Suspended Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Rizwan Umar Gondal in his written reply submitted to an inquiry committee constituted to investigate the alleged misconduct of DPO with Khawar Fareed Maneka, the ex-husband of first lady Bushra Imran, contended that he was repeatedly pressurised to apologize to Fareed which he refused, sources said on Thursday.
While appearing before the inquiry committee, the suspended DPO informed the investigating officers that some people repeatedly pressurised him to visit Fareed Maneka's residence and apologize to him. When the DPO refused to comply with the directives of the high-ups of Punjab police and the Punjab government, the decision for his suspension was immediately taken, the sources added. Meanwhile, Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam transferred and posted Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigations) Maria Mehmood as new DPO Pakpattan and a notification in this regard has also been issued.
According to a police spokesman, female officers and officials are being given important positions according to the vision of IG Punjab Kaleem Imam. Earlier, he said the female officers and officials were not given important positions and field postings.
It may be noted that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday took notice of the DPO's transfer and directed IG Punjab Kaleem Imam, Additional IGP, inquiry officer Abubakar Khuda Bux, Sahiwal RPO and Gondal to appear before the court today (Friday) along with the inquiry report.
