Punjab Minister for Food Sammiullah Chaudhry warned the adulterators on Thursday to mend their ways or leave the province. He said zero tolerance policy will be observed against those selling adulterated or unhygienic food.
Recommendations regarding wheat procurement policy for coming year are being prepared and will be finalised after consultation with all the stakeholders. These recommendations will be sent to the central government for announcement of minimum support price for farmers.
"We are thinking to introduce e-governance in food department in order to provide people an exemplary delivery of service," said the minister.
Sammiullah Chaudhary made this announcement after presiding over the meeting of various departments of the Food ministry and taking briefing from the officials concerned.
While addressing the meeting which was attended by Secretary Food Shaukat Ali and officials from the Punjab Food Authority, the minister shared his mission and future strategy with major aim to bring improvement in the ministry. Sammiullah warned that elements involved in adulteration of food either have to mend their ways or leave the province.
He further said that after detailed briefing from officials of Food department and other stakeholders, all concerned departments of the ministry have been directed to take steps ensuring procurement more transparent. He said that provision of Halal, healthy and hygienic food to our people without discrimination is mission and policy of our government.
"Universal access number and online complaint cell will be made more functional under my direct supervision. Media and people are encouraged to play their role in keeping us aware of adulteration of food across the province," he added.
