Punjab Excise Minister Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmad on Thursday said that the government was committed to address the problems of common man and to move the country towards prosperity. He was talking to University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) senior most professor and Dean Veterinary Sciences Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa. Registrar UAF Muhammad Hussain was also present on the occasion.
He said that lack of awareness about modern agricultural technologies among farming community was marring in getting full benefit from our potential and it is responsible for per acre low productivity compared to the rest of the world. He also recommended opening up UAF sub campus in Samundari in order to provide modern agricultural education to dwellers at their doorstep. He added that quality education and research works were imperative for the uplift and the development of any country.
Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa said that the UAF was running sub-campuses in Toba Tek Singh, Burewala, and Okara Depalpur. He said that we had the potential to open new sub-campus in Samundari also. He added that the agriculture was the backbone of our economy that is contributing 20 percent to the Gross Domestic Product.
He lauded the initiative of government of launching a massive plantation campaign that will begin from September 2, 2018 to address the issue of the climate changes. He said that we have to turn the areas especially at the bank of canal lush green. He said that people with the rural background can recall millions of tress at the bank of canal and our four back. But now the situation has changed.
He said that UAF would love to be a part of this nation building move for actual contribution, being a community of more than 40,000 people. He said that we can make the bank of the canals lush green in 60 kilometres radius.
