Fazl-Zardari meeting remains inconclusive

A meeting between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman for fielding joint presidential candidate from opposition parties remained inconclusive, it is learnt.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday met Asif Ali Zardari and discussed ways to field a joint candidate for the slot of president from opposition parties. PPP leaders Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Farhatullah Babar, Raja Pervez Ashraf and other participated in the meeting.
According to the sources, Zardari refused to withdraw party candidate Aitzaz Ahsan from the race of Presidential election.
They said that Rehman would inform Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif about the discussion with Zardari and stance of the PPP on the issue of presidential election.
The sources said that a delegation of PPP also met with PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and asked him to withdraw candidate (the Maulana) in favour of their candidate (Aitzaz) for presidential candidate.
