Provincial Minister for Food Samiullah Chaudhry on Monday directed the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to devise a special policy in collaboration with all concerned stakeholders for the elimination of oestrogen and oxytocin injections which are being given to cows to boost milk production.
The minister said this while responding to media queries after presiding over a meeting at the PFA headquarters on Monday. Chaudhry also directed the PFA to continue crackdown against substandard food points across Punjab.
The Minister also directed to include food experts in the PFA's Board as its members. By expanding the circle of its awareness campaign, the PFA should create awareness among students and masses about adulteration, he emphasised. The PFA should also ensure merit and transparency in its recruitment process, he expressed.
While admiring the role of PFA's laboratories in controlling adulteration in Punjab, Samiullah directed to replicate these laboratories in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala by completing the pending work as soon as possible.
Earlier in the day, PFA Director General Captain Muhammad Usman(R) briefed the Minister about the progress of the authority and its ongoing projects. He assured him to accelerate the pace of work for getting fruitful results in future.
"We are utilizing all available resources for bringing reforms in the PFA and to ensure the provision of healthy food to the people," the DG claimed. Later, the Minister planted a tree in the PFA Headquarters.
