MQM-P launches tree plantation campaign

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan on Wednesday launched three-day "Own Karachi, Green Karachi" campaign to carry out tree plantation at a massive level. Amir Khan, Deputy Convener MQM Pakistan inaugurated the campaign of the party at Jheel Park, which is aimed at turning Karachi into a green city. The party kicked off this campaign in collaboration with Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and four district municipal corporations (DMCs), which were governed by MQM Pakistan' elected representatives.
Amir Khan said that workers, supporters and sympathisers of MQM Pakistan would undertake tree plantation in every district of Karachi. He appealed to citizens of the city to participate actively in this campaign by owning the city. "The climate change through tree plantation would turn the weather of the city as well as mindset of the people," he believed.
Amir Khan reposes confidence in federal government to take care of Karachi, which is the growth engine of Pakistan. "When Karachi would received just treatment it would have far reaching impacts on the entire country," Amir Khan stated and added that peace in the city would provide relief to everyone.
He urged the federal government to release special development funds for Karachi and other urban parts of Sindh like the tree plantation. He called upon the citizens to take tree plantation as their national duty.
Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said that 1500 saplings have been planted at jheel Park and the tree plantation campaign is positive development. "We can fight the adverse consequences of climate change by taking the tree plantation as a mission," he added.
He criticised the past government for ignoring the issue of climate change and said that hundreds of thousands of saplings would be planted in three days campaign of the party. Wasim appealed to all political parties and NGOs to participate in this campaign and said that we would try to continue this campaign for whole year.
