The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the companies to pay expenses to Punjab University (PU) and other educational institutions for using their playgrounds for the construction of Lahore Metro Bus and Orange Line Metro Train projects.
The court was hearing a petition challenging handing over playgrounds of Punjab University and Government College University for construction of Orange Line Metro Train projects and warned the companies of confiscating their machinery if they failed to pay the money. The court observed that soon it will decide to send the matter to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Earlier, the LDA officials told the court that the PU playground would be restored to its original form within 20 days and the hearing was adjourned till September 10. The PU's counsel also told the court that syndicate had declined to hand over land to former Punjab government but the then vice chancellor, Mujahid Kamran, gave the land without syndicate's approval.
The court observed that mafias illegally occupied the properties of their choices with impunity and government officials played the role of facilitators. The court observed that it respected Mujahid Kamran as a teacher but he crossed all limits in violation of law.
