A subcommittee of the Senate Standing Committee on Aviation Friday asked the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to revise parking fee at airports across the country.
The committee suggested for applying new parking fee before awarding a new contract to any company once the current contract expires. The committee was discussing the matter of illegal parking and entry fee at New Islamabad International Airport. The issue was raised in the Senate and was further referred to the committee.
The meeting was held here with Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati in the chair and attended among others by Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Sheikh and senior officials of the CAA. The committee also asked the authority to give details and justification as why and how the contracts for parking have been awarded to the same company over the years.
The committee also heard the complainant and the CAA in the matter of upgrading posts of superintendents in BPS-17 of CAA. The committee after hearing both the sides observed that the CAA being an autonomous body cannot be asked to replicate up-gradation procedures adopted by other federal or provincial government bodies and it has to make its own decisions. The committee was also told that the CAA has on its own initiated a mechanism of upgrading the posts of superintendents so that they can be provided with a promotional hierarchy. It was also observed that the matter of complaint is sub judice with a court and the committee decided to wait until the court issues any orders.
