Federal Minister for Law and Justice Dr Muhammad Farogh Naseem has said that purpose of the taskforce formed to reform National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law is to make the anti-graft body more focused and effective to counter mega corruption with suitable checks and balances so as to avoid unnecessary harassment.
The minister chaired a meeting of the Taskforce on NAB Reforms here on Tuesday. The meeting was held to develop a detailed plan for bringing reforms in the NAB law in terms of making it more focused and effective.
He said that all the stakeholders must be taken into confidence and public support and opinion need to be kept in mind while preparing the new accountability law to further empower the NAB. He was of the view that through this new accountability law, a positive message is expected to be conveyed to the business community.
Deputy Chairman NAB Imtiaz Tajwar apprised the law minister during the meeting that the NAB and the Law Ministry are on the same page. He also said that the NAB is in contact with business community and a positive outcome is expected.
Mirza Shahzad Akbar, SAPM on Accountability, Maleeka Bokhari, Parliamentary Secretary Law, Abdul Shakoor Paracha, Secretary Law, and other officials from FBR and the Attorney General Office also attended the meeting.
