The Agriculture department has planned to install 1000 solar panels to operate drip and irrigation system within 100 days on the basis of 80 percent subsidy. The Punjab government will also provide a separate subsidy of 50 percent on tunnel technology for growing vegetables.
This was disclosed by a spokesman of the department here on Wednesday. He said that the government was paying special attention towards promoting water conservation techniques among the growers as water experts are warning against the depleting water resources. "Our country is also not an exception. To arrest the trend of shortage of water resources, new techniques are being explored on how to save water and use it optimally," the spokesman added.
Some of these techniques are lining of channels/micro-irrigation systems, including drip/sprinkler irrigation. So, Agriculture department will going to install 1000 solar panels to operate drip irrigation system within next 100 days on the basis of 80% subsidy. Water Management section of Agriculture department will complete this task. Farmers can obtain application forms for improvement of water courses during office timing from office of their regional Divisional Directors/Deputy Director/ Assistant Director Agriculture (Water Management). Application forms can also be downloaded from official website of Water Management section.
