Security tightened for today: 9th Muharram's procession ends peacefully

The mourning procession of 9th Muharram to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala was culminated peacefully at Hussainia Imam Bargah, Kharadar area Thursday. The Sindh police have chalked out security plan for the 10th Muharram rally in the city to be observed Friday.
The government has imposed ban on pillion-riding, and suspension of cellular services in the city on 18, 19, 20 September or 8th 9th and 10th of Muharram. There were adequate security arrangements on Jaloos route at M A Jinnah Road on Thursday with heavy deployment of law enforcement agencies besides aerial surveillance to avoid any untoward incident in the city.
A large number of people, including women and children, participated in the main procession and offered Namaz-e-Zohrain outside Imambarghah Ali Raza and then begun marching through Singer Chowk, Noman Center, Tibet Center, Regal Chowk and Jama Cloth, culminated at Kharadar Imambarghah soon after dusk. Earlier an Alam procession was taken out from Markazi Imambarghah Liaquatbad that ended at Martin Road Imambarghah and thereafter, it came to Nishter Park.
In their speeches to the city's central Majlis at Nishter Park, and M.A Jinnah Road the scholars shed light on sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his loyal companions that they rendered in the soil of Karbala for the noble cause of prevalence humanity and justice. Entry of vehicles and pedestrians to all roads and lanes connecting the route of the procession were completely sealed by placing containers. Earlier, the Bomb disposal squad also carried out sweeping of the route of main procession. All encroachments had already been removed from entire route and all shops and markets were sealed.
Meanwhile, the police said they are set to ensure security to the 10th Muharram rally that would be observed at the same route of MA Jinnah on Friday. In order to provide complete security to the procession some 17,558 would perform duties in the city. Staffers of rescue services, ambulances, fire brigade and bomb disposal squad would also available, besides officials of local administration to redress complaints regarding civic facilities.
Control room has been set up in the city for timely dissemination of information among LEAs. The 10th Muharram would be monitored through 184 CCTV cameras in the city. Fort-three different spots of processions routes would also be monitored through 55 mobile cameras and 129 fixed cameras. The centralized command and control room has been established at CPO and regional command center at Civic Center. Home secretary has already directed the DIGs to assess and provide adequate security to notables till Chehlum.
