'Democratic dynasties'

This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "Democratic dynasties" carried by the newspaper the other day. There is no doubt about the fact that the political landscape of South Asia is characterized by dynastic rule under democratic rubric, making it different from what one witnesses in the Middle East and North Africa. In Pakistan, PTI appears to be rather different from PML-N and PPP as far as these parties approach to politics is concerned. While Imran Khan appears to be a great opponent of political dynasties, Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rahman find no fault with the concept of political family.
A political family is a family in which several members are involved in politics, particularly electoral politics. Members may be related by blood or marriage; often several generations or multiple siblings may be involved. It is true that in the case of Pakistan, Jamaat-e-Islami and MQM perhaps happen to be the only exceptions.
