LHC allows protective bail to Safdar

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday granted protective bail to Capt Muhammad Safdar (retd), son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif and restrained the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) from arresting him.
Earlier his counsel Azam Nazir Tarar argued that the NAB-KP initiated an inquiry against his client on the allegations of accumulating assets beyond means. He said, Safdar is living in Lahore since long but bureau kept issuing summons at his old residence in Mansehra.
Therefore, the counsel said the petitioner failed to join the inquiry well on time. He expressed serious apprehensions of arrest of the petitioner since NAB adopted a practice of arresting persons on inquiry stage despite joining the investigations.
He contended that the petitioner was a law abiding citizen and wanted to join the bureau's investigation and asked the court to allow protective bail to the petitioner. The court accordingly allowed a protective bail to Safdar for ten days enabling him to join the NAB investigation.
