All Pakistan Oil Tanker Owners Association (APOTOA) on Tuesday announced to call off strike following assurances from the Sindh Governor Imran Ismail to redress their grievances. "Our representatives had a meeting with the Governor who has taken up the issue with concerned federal minister and top officials, including MD PSO regarding the matter," APOTOA senior vice chairman Mir Shams Shahwani told the media. He said the Governor Imran Ismail assured for early resolution of transporters' grievances.
The Sindh Governor said that after the Ahmedpur incident, laws were drafted which stated that more than 20-year-old vehicles would not be used. The owners of oil tankers have assured that they would improve the condition of their vehicles as it was not safe to use old vehicles to transport oil. "We are now withdrawing our call for countrywide strike. The oil supply will continue as usual," Shahwani said.
