KMC to be given more fire tenders: minister

Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani has said that more fire tenders will be given to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation very soon in order to enhance its capabilities to do firefighting operations in the city.
Talking to a delegation of National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH)., he said that the compulsory firefighting arrangements should be beefed up at all public places, in the industries, hotels, and shopping malls in the province.
He said that concerned industrialists, owners of the buildings, municipal administrations, and concerned citizens all were under strict obligation to take the due fire safety measures and also spread awareness in this regarding among the general public.
Saeed Ghani on the occasion eulogized the services of NFEH for promoting public awareness on the issue of fire safety measures to be undertaken in the urban areas. He said that provincial Local Government Department would provide utmost support in all such good initiatives and efforts by the concerned non-governmental organizations.
It should be recalled here that at a ceremony held earlier in the month in Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah handed over 10 new fire tenders and a 104 metres-long snorkel to different municipal agencies of the province. Out of these equipment, the snorkel having a cost of Rs 495 million and three fire tenders with the cost of each fire engine Rs 19 million, were given to the KMC. The Sindh CM on the occasion expressed his resolve to provide maximum support in the similar manner to enhance firefighting capabilities of municipal agencies in every district and taluka of the province. President of NFEH, Naeem Qureshi briefed about upcoming 8th Annual Fire Safety and Security Convention & Awards to be held on November 7 at local hotel.
