27th October is a dark day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir when India forcibly annexed Jammu and Kashmir against the wishes of its people. This is the day when Kashmiris were deprived of their freedom. India has continued, not only, to deny the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right of self-determination, but also subjecting them to the worst kind of human rights violations and oppression.
Pakistan strongly condemns India's use of pellet guns to blind an entire generation of Kashmiri youth, a phenomenon so macabre it has few precedents in history. The plight of the Kashmiris has been validated by the first ever report of the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan calls upon the international community to be cognizant of its responsibilities regarding Kashmir issue and urges it to conduct an independent investigation by a Commission of Inquiry (CoI), as recommended by the report. Today, we express our full solidarity with our Kashmiri brethren who have rendered unmatched sacrifices in their struggle for self-determination. Pakistan will continue to extend all political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris to help them achieve that long-awaited and deserved right.
