Knitwear garment exports have maintained its top position with the highest in textile export chain as well as in total national export with an increase of 16 percent in October 2018 as compared to October 2017. Knitwear Garment exports grew over 10 percent during period July to October 2018 than July to October 2017. Knitwear Garment sector is ranked top among textile group for last three years since 2015-16.
Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) chairman Muhammad Jawed Bilwani has said that knitwear garment sector can achieve new milestones and its export can be enhanced by 25 percent every year if the government continuously support them, sympathetically consider textile sector proposals and ensure its implementation.
"Knitwear Garment sector alone has earned some $2.719 billion during last fiscal year (FY18) for the country. It included knitted products of shirts, T-shirts, jerseys, pullovers, trousers, jackets, etc. It also provides highest employment in the Textile Group," he said.
Bilwani appreciated the government for giving priority to the five zero rated export sectors and also prioritizing the export industry for provision of uninterrupted gas supply with separate tariffs, which was a long withheld demand of PHMA. He said if the government address all their problems and issues, a breakthrough in the exports can be easily achieved. He termed the exports as the lifeline to strengthen the national economy.
