Finance Minister Asad Umar is likely to brief the federal cabinet today (Friday) on agreements Pakistan has signed with the UAE and Malaysia during the recent visits of Prime Minister Imran Khan to these countries. Prime Minister Imran Khan has convened a meeting of the federal cabinet to consider six items on its agenda.
An official of Finance Ministry said as the federal cabinet will review overall economic situation, the finance minister is likely to share the reasons behind inconclusive talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The federal cabinet, sources said, is also expected to review the performance of the ministries to achieve the government's targets during the first 100 days.
The federal cabinet will consider making new appointments as agenda for the meeting included consideration of a Ministry of Industries and Production's proposal for assigning additional charge of post of chairman, Export Processing Zone Authority, to Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Additional Secretary Ministry of Industries & Production (MOIP).
The cabinet meeting will also consider a proposal of Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom Division regarding revision of government policies to enable import of used mobile devices and prevention of smuggling through implementation of Device Identification Registration Blocking System (DIRBS) by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The Defence Division's proposal for Quadrilateral Cooperation and Coordination Mechanism (QCCM) Agreement & Counter Terrorism Information Coordination Centre Protocol will also be considered by the meeting.
The cabinet will also consider a proposal of Law and Justice Division with regard to withdrawal of the Law Division notification of March 3, 2014 and redefining the territorial limits of two existing special courts (Control of Narcotics substances (I and II) at Karachi.
Another proposal of the Law Division for appointment of Judicial Officers Banking Court-I, Gujranwala, and Banking Court-II, Faisalabad, is also on the agenda of the federal cabinet meeting.
