Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi termed the terrorist attack on the country's consulate in Karachi as an attempt to impact Pakistan-China relations and harm China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi telephoned State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding the terrorist attack against the Chinese Consulate in Karachi on Friday and apprised him of the details of the attack. Qureshi also highlighted the prompt action of Pakistani law enforcement officials.
"Pakistan is fully committed to taking all necessary measures to provide robust security to all Chinese nationals in Pakistan. The two countries will continue to cooperate to thwart the designs of hostile forces against their time-tested friendship," Qureshi told Foreign Minister Yi.
He assured the State Councilor that a thorough investigation will be carried out to apprehend the perpetrators, financiers, planners and facilitators.
He also informed his Chinese counterpart about the martyrdom of two security officials that helped in a quick resolution of the crisis.
The spokesperson said that Foreign Minister Wang Yi strongly condemned the terrorist attack against Chinese Consulate in Karachi and also appreciated the quick, prompt and effective action of Pakistan security and law enforcement personnel who sacrificed their lives to protect the Chinese consulate.
"Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the terrorist attack was an attempt to impact Pakistan-China relations and harm CPEC. He stressed that Pakistan-China brotherhood was clad in iron and such cowardly attacks could not affect it," the spokesperson added.
Earlier, updating the media on the situation after the terrorists launched an attack against the Chinese consulate in Karachi, the foreign minister said that all staff members of the consulate remained safe in the attack. He condemned the attack as cowardly and lauded the timely action by police and Rangers to foil the attack.
Qureshi said that a total of 21 people were present inside the Chinese consulate in Karachi, adding that all remained safe and all the three terrorists involved in the attack were killed. He further said that the perpetrators of the attack will be taken to logical conclusion.
He also updated the media about his interaction with Chinese consul general and the Chinese ambassador, saying that the Chinese ambassador was satisfied with the prompt response from the Pakistani security forces.
Earlier, Director General ISPR said in a statement that three terrorists attempted to enter Chinese consulate, but were killed and Rangers and police got the control. "All Chinese [are] safe. [And] situation is under control," the spokesperson added.
"Pakistan Police Service has evolved through testing times. Their displayed professionalism in recent times as first responders, which is commendable. From preempting the terrorism attempts to foiling these at first checking point is the testimony. Salute to our police and its martyrs," the DG ISPR further said in a tweet.
