Adviser to the Prime Minister Abdul Razaq Dawood on Sunday said that strenuous efforts were being made for boosting the export volume and to resolve the problems confronted by the business community of the country.
Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) he said that government has focused its special attention on the promotion of industrial sector which was totally ignored in the past. He further stated that government was utilizing all channels and resources for boosting the exports of the country adding that special steps had been taken for further strengthening the trade relations with different countries aimed at enhancing the export volume of the country.
Dawood informed house that government is actively considering reducing the duties on raw material to facilitate the business community of the country. The Advisor stressed upon the business community that they should focus on producing new products including engineering products to cope with the new challenges of the world. It is very unfortunate that our spinning industry is not stable and under the circumstances we should try to develop our spinning line for catering the future needs of the country he said.
The Advisor assured the house that matching funds for city package would be provided for continuing the development work under the city package. In his address of welcome President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Khawaja Masood Akhtar urged upon the government to allocate sufficient land for developing Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Sialkot. The existing industrial estate had been short of space and due to lack of space new industrial unit could not be established in present industrial estate, he said. The SCCI President further stated that increase in dollars rate is creating serious problems for the business community particularly for the SMEs.
