Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi has announced Rs 70 millions' compensation package for the bereaved family and close relatives of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar who was martyred in Afghanistan.
The minister also announced to form a five-member parliamentary committee to oversee the ongoing investigations regarding abduction and murder of the SP.
While addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, Afridi also announced that a total of Rs 70 million compensation package has been approved by the Prime Minister Imran Khan for the family and close relatives of SP Tahir Khan. He said Rs 50 million are for the family of SP Tahir, Rs 10 million for his sister and Rs 10 million for the family of his (SP Tahir Khan) brother.
SP Dawar, head of Peshawar Police's rural circle, was kidnapped in Islamabad on October 26, 2018 and his dead body was found in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on November 15.
In addition to the compensation package, he said SP Dawar's son would also be offered job as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police.
Shehryar Afridi also announced that parliamentary committee will remain in touch with the joint investigation team (JIT). He said three members would be taken from the opposition benches and two from treasury benches in committee.
While appreciating the role of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and their sacrifices for the country, he said SP Tahir Dawar was a brave son of the soil. He recalled that the deceased police officer had previously survived two attacks and was sole bread-earner for three families.
He told that the JIT has been formed to probe his abduction and murder after Prime Minister Khan took notice of the case. The JIT is investigating the murder, adding, "We will bring the killers to justice."
He said it is responsibility of the state to provide protection to the security personnel. He said that some elements want to create anarchy in the country by portraying the case negatively on social media. "We will not allow such elements to succeed," he vowed.
