NAB special prosecutor resigns

Special Prosecutor National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Imran Shafique, who was part of NAB's Panama cases prosecution team, on Tuesday resigned from his post citing personal reasons. Shafique represented the NAB as a prosecution team member in the Panama cases and as a lead prosecutor in the reference filed against former Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar. He was also assigned the task of conducting appeals against the acquittal of former President Asif Ali Zardari.
"My service with the NAB has been a great and profound learning experience. I tried to perform my duties to the best of my abilities and to utmost of skills," Shafique stated in his resignation letter.
"On account of some personal reasons, I find myself unable to continue with the NAB any further thus constrained to tender instant resignation," he further said. However, the sources said that Shafique was summoned to the NAB headquarters for taking a tough stance over dual nationality of Advisor to Prime Minister Zulfi Bukhari in Islamabad High Court on Monday last and was asked to resign.
