Normal rains forecast for parts of country

05 Dec, 2018

Pakistan is expected to receive about four rainy spells of a light-to-moderate intensity in current month with snowfall in periods, the Met Office said. It said that slightly above normal rains are expected to fall in the most parts of the country with snowfall in spells over the higher altitudes of Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral and Kashmir.
"One spell of rainfall over upper half is expected during first half of this month," it said, adding that two to three spells of rainfall with light-to-moderate intensity are likely to occur all over the country during the second half of December, 2018.
The Met office said that fall in temperature and intrusion of cold waves may cause foggy conditions in plains of Punjab and upper Sindh. Intense smog is also likely to hit urban areas of Central Punjab and Sindh. It said prevailing drought in Southern Balochistan and Sindh may transform into a drought of moderate-to-severe intensity.
"The prevailing global climate forcing El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) are likely to stay in positive phase, whereas NAO is expected to remain negative during the month," it said.
