Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that if a true accountability was held in the country, the assemblies would become empty and the jails would be overcrowded. Talking to the media, he said that the nation wanted to see the plunderers and thieves in the grip of the law. The JI also desired that all those who had harmed the public exchequer should be brought to the dock.
The JI chief said that if the political parties had any ideology, they would have been stressing for the accountability of the corrupt instead of trying to protect them. He said that as and when there was a demand for the accountability of the ruling elite, their political parties and the parliament stood in the way. Sirajul Haq said that politics in the country revolved around individuals and families due to which the institutions had weakened and the individuals had becomes strong. These parties were now fighting for the interests of the individuals instead of national interests.
He said the JI was continuing its movement for a corruption free Pakistan because Pakistan and corruption could not go together. He warned that if the cancer of corruption was not controlled, even the existing institutions would crumble. He said the nation wanted the accountability of the remaining 436 people named in the Panama leaks besides those who had built empires in the US, London, and Dubai.
