Around 45,000 litres of Iranian diesel seized

The crackdown against the operators of smuggled Iranian diesel is in full swing as around 45,000 litres of diesel have been confiscated by Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Preventive in three separate operations within a week. In its latest action, the department has seized 15,000 litres of smuggled Iranian diesel and huge quantity of different types of chemical from an illegal depot located at Habib Bank roundabout, Nazimabad.
Similarly, a water tanker bearing registration no TTC-653 was intercepted near Hamdard University. The driver when asked about the load in his tanker replied to have water instead of any contraband commodity. On his refusal, the preventive staff has conducted physical examination. The tanker containing one chamber filled with water. However, on further examination, it was observed that the hidden tanks were also existed inside the chamber. Therefore, the water tanker was taken into possession along with driver Khuda Bux and shifted it to the state warehouse located in Keamari area.
During detailed examination of tanker, it was revealed that two hidden tanks were cleverly fabricated inside the tanker under the cover load of water and these hidden tanks were containing smuggled Iranian diesel. Later, the recovered diesel was shifted to another tanker for the purpose of measuring the quantity of the said commodity, which resulted in the recovery of 10,000 litres of smuggled Iranian diesel.
The department has also foiled another attempt of transporting smuggled Iranian diesel from Gulshan-e-Hadeed area and the preventive staff has recovered 20,500 litres of Iranian diesel from hidden tanks installed in the oil tanker. Consequent upon recoveries of smuggled Iranian diesel, cases have been registered and further investigation is in progress.
