PTI government have no choice but to approach IMF: Hamza

23 Dec, 2018

Terming 100 days performance of the PTI-led government as highly deplorable and directionless, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz on Saturday said that the government is bound to approach the IMF to meet the deficit.
Expressing serious concern over poor state of economy in the country, Hamza said that it is facing downward trend due to soaring inflation, declining exports and a financial gap of US $25 billion. Speaking at a reception, he hosted in honour of members of the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Committee at Model Town, Hamza said that traders, industrialists, exporters and even vendors are concerned over poor state of the economy.
He further said that they welcomed the assistance from friendly countries but the state of economy cannot be improved without improving the economic indicators and setting the economy on right direction. "It appears the PTI leadership had not done any home work and is directionless to set the economy on the right direction," he added.
When asked about the health of his father and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Hamza said that there is an abnormality in the report, which suggests consultation with his doctors abroad. "We are consulting legal team and may file a writ in the Lahore High Court for his medical checkup abroad," he added.
Answering a question about the decision of the PTI-led Punjab government to celebrate Basant, Hamza said that human life is so precious and use of twine is so complicated, hence without putting necessary safeguards for human lives, such a festival should not be marked.
Hamza also highlighted his early days in politics and six-months in Adiala Jail as well as 10 years of Pervez Musharraf. "We had faced worst circumstances but never compromised on principles," he said, adding, "truth would be unfolded sooner or later."
