The vice-chairman Pakistan Bar Council (PBS) Kamran Murtaza and its executive committee chairman Shabir Seher have strongly condemned death of Prof Mian Javaid Ahmed, former head of Lahore Campus of the University of Sargodha while in NAB custody.
He was reportedly shifted to hospital handcuffed in a critical position where he died still in chains. Such a glaring maltreatment and torture of and educational at the hands of NAB and then jail officials which caused his death speaks volume of inhuman torturous treatment of the anti-graft agency and the jail officials towards accused persons during the course of investigation by them, they added.
They demanded the federal government and the apex court for ordering a high level inquiry into the unfortunate incident an educationist's death and fix responsibility against concerned officials. Those found involved in this negligence, they added, should be awarded exemplary punishment besides directing National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to respect human and fundamental rights of accused persons in their custody during investigation of their cases.
