The Excise and Taxation department failed to start issuing smart cards despite piling up of 10,000 demands in last three days. It may be noted that Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar had inaugurated the system of smart cards four days ago. Not a single smart card has been issued till date, said sources.
The department had announced of delivering cards in three to seven days. However, no such possibility is in the offing due to two consecutive public holidays at the weekend. So much so, the relevant courier company has also not received a single card for delivery to the applicants. Also, they said, the department has not yet installed the device to check smart cards. Sources are of the view that dispatching of smart cards will still take time and delivery is not likely to start before the middle of next week.
