Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has said that dream of establishing mother and child hospitals is about to come true, as PC-I of the project is being prepared. "Although the Punjab government would provide sources for the scheme, however, any cooperation from philanthropists would also be welcomed," she expressed views while addressing a fund raising ceremony for Sir Gangaram Mother and Child Hospital, held here on Saturday. On the occasion, Karin Aleem Khan, the wife Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, donated Rs 2 million for the hospital while millions of cash and cheques were also donated by different participants.
The Minister said, "We are trying to overall public health system. Gangaram Mother and Child Hospital will be state-of-the-art project. If philanthropists contribute one rupee the government will add nine rupees to complete the project as early as possible. Every person who was born in Gangaram Hospital should come forward and contribute."
She told the audience that mother and child hospitals will also be established in five districts of Punjab. "This project is being appreciated worldwide. USAID and DFID had also offered technical and financial cooperation.
