A team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) late Wednesday night raided the head office of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and taken the record pertaining to a bank. It has been confirmed that the FIA team went to the SECP headquarters around 11:45pm Wednesday night and acquired record/files about the acquisition/ merger of a bank from the commission's office.
However, no one in the SECP was ready to share the details of the FIA raid. The FIA team remained in the SECP offices till filing of this report. The FIA has raided the SECP at a time when the Chairman SECP is out of the country. He is on leave approved by the concerned ministry.
Meanwhile, in his response to the JIT report, the SECP Chairman has strongly denied the observations contained in Paragraph 3(e) of the Final (Synthesis) Report submitted by JIT wherein his name has specifically been mentioned as the officer of the SECP, who 'misinterpreted and misapplied the relevant law and committed an act of deliberate omission' to further some criminal scheme for the expansion of a bank.
