The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Punjab has recovered and deposited an estimated amount of Rs 1379.911 million in the national exchequer during the year of 2018. According to the documents available with Business Recorder, the FIA's Anti-Corruption Circle (ACC) Lahore recovered Rs 980 million while ACC Gujranwala recovered Rs 0.187 million, ACC Faisalabad recovered Rs 1.131 million and ACC Multan recovered Rs 1.837 million, during the year of 2018.
Similarly, the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC) Lahore also recovered Rs 27.574 million whereas AHTC Gujranwala Rs 115.325 million, AHTC Faisalabad Rs 9.690 million and AHTC Multan recovered Rs 53.341 million.
In addition, the Commercial Banking Circle (CBC) Lahore recovered Rs 5.635 million while CBC Gujranwala recovered Rs 1.345 million, CBC Faisalabad Rs 11.406 million and CBC Multan recovered Rs 54.8 million. The FIA's Corporate Crime Circle (CCC) Lahore also recovered Rs 145.110 million.
"Out of the total, we have recovered an approximate amount of Rs 190 million under the head of money laundering. Overall, we have registered nearly 250 first information reports (FIRs) on charges of money laundering as well," an official familiar with the information told Business Recorder.
According to the report, however, the performance of FIA remained under question as it registered 5402 cases but submitted challans 2246 only in courts. Out of the total 5402, around 3766 cases were added in 2018 while the remaining 1636 were registered in 2017. Also, nearly 227 cases were transferred or closed in 2018, the report says.
However, the performance of ACC remained under question as the ACC Lahore submitted only 59 challans in courts against the 142 registered cases. Likewise, the ACC Gujranwala registered 106 cases and submitted challans of only eight cases while ACC Gujrat submitted only four challans after registration of 29 cases.
The ACC Faisalabad and also showed similar performance and submitted only 35 challans against the registered 75 cases whereas the ACC Multan registered 138 cases and submitted 28 challans only.
In the same way, the AHTC Lahore registered 1221 cases and submitted only 870 challans while AHTC Gujranwala registered 1531 cases and submitted 469challans, AHTC Gujrat registered 454 cases and submitted challans of only 22 cases, AHTC Faisalabad registered 601 cases and submitted challans of 420 and AHTC Multan registered 541cases and submitted challans of 141.
Besides, the CBC Lahore submitted only 43 challans in courts against 151 registered cases while CBC Gujranwala submitted 18 challans against 75 cases, CBC Gujrat submitted four challans against 19 cases, CBC Faisalabad submitted 30 challans against 47 cases and CBC Multan submitted 21 against 78 cases. The CCC also submitted 74 challans before courts out of the total 194 registered cases.
