Responding to US President Donald Trump's recent statement on relationship with Pakistan, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry underscored the importance of better ties between the two countries for regional stability.
In a tweet, Chaudhry said Pakistan has suffered immensely in the war on terror. He said the bilateral relations will move towards further improvement if the US also understands Pakistan's significance and the role it played in the war on terror.
The information minister said peace in Pakistan is linked with Afghanistan. He pointed out that the US also has an important role in the context of Afghan stability. "Peace in Pakistan is linked with Afghanistan," Chaudhry said in a tweet. "The role of United States is extremely important for stability in Afghanistan."
Trump on Wednesday said he looked forward to meeting "the new leadership of Pakistan" and wished for a "great relationship" with the country.
"Improvement in Pakistan-US ties is important for regional stability. If the US understands Pakistan's importance and moves forward, then matters will improve."
Trump's remarks came as quite a contrast to his stance exactly a year ago when he had said the United States "foolishly gave Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years" and that Islamabad had "given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools."
In another tweet, Fawad Chaudhry said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is actually the revolution of middle class.
He said since the middle class is the most vocal, therefore, often the reaction on some matters is immediate and comes without a complete picture. He, however, said at present there is an unwavering faith on the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan. This is the reason that criticism on a single matter could not hold its ground.
Meanwhile, addressing a passing-out ceremony of 35th Specialized Training Programme of probationary officers at Information Services Academy on Thursday, Chaudhry says use of digital technology in state media will be improved.
The minister said the academies working under the Ministry of Information are also being merged. He said the Ministry of Information is supposed to safeguard the interests of the state.
