Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday demanded the speaker National Assembly to refer a reference filed by the party against Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). On Friday last, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah filed a reference against Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid with the speaker National Assembly, seeking his disqualification from holding any public office.
Speaking at a presser along with PML-N Central Information Secretary Senator Mushahidullah Khan here, he said that he hit out at Rashid and accused him of receiving 'exhortation' under the pretext of Kashmir jihad. "He [Rashid] is nothing but a fraud as he exploited people on the pretext of Kashmir jihad, set up camps and collected money for the jihad and made billions of rupees property from the same money," he claimed.
"If billions of rupees property of MQM [Muttahida Qaumi Movement] can be confiscated, why the law is silent about this man [Sheikh] as he has committed far more heinous crime than MQM to say the least," he alleged. He said that he had already sent a disqualification reference against Rashid to the speaker National Assembly which he should forward to ECP for further action as people like Sheikh had no place in the Parliament.
"He'd established a fake training camp in the name of Kashmir cause. In reality, he himself is the real owner of the Benami property," he contended. He said that his three-point application highlights Rashid's alleged betrayal of Kashmiris and their cause, running gambling dens, extorting the masses and illegally establishing properties in the name of his nephews and nieces. Demanding his disqualification as an MNA, he said that Rashid is a "liar and a dishonest person" whose presence undermines the sanctity of the Parliament.
