Chaos and shocking brawl erupted on Sunday outside Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi after thousands of job seekers thronged the health facility for walk-in interviews advertised for different low-scale positions.
According to details, the hospital had first time advertised 300 lower cadre posts after years, but to surprise of its administration, over 20,000 people showed up. Initially, the hospital administration and police attempted to handle the situation according to their capability, however the applicants became rowdy and started pushing and shoving their way in. Some of them even tried jumping over the hospital gate. The procedure for the applicants was to get a slip from the OPD councils and the go to another room for a walk-in interview.
Finally, the police had to use batons to stop applicants. The rangers also rushed to the hospital to control the situation. Meanwhile, the hospital administration vowed to conduct interviews for all the applicants, even if officers needed to work till 10pm. The unemployment has become the severe issue of Karachi as the federal IT minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, quoting a survey said the poverty of the metropolis has reached to 50 percent at present.
