The federal government will appoint directors of the boards of oil and gas companies through advertisement. The government has initiated the process of hiring professionals for the position of directors through advertisement. The steps have been taken in the light of directives of the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Law and Justice. Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that initially the ministry advertised for the selection of members of board of directors for three oil and gas companies.
This will delay the appointment of chief executive officers (CEOs) of the oil and gas companies. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government set a target of completing reconstitution of boards and appointment of new CEOs in first 200 days of its government. The federal government is also divided in connection with the status of dual nationals occupying important positions in the government. In fresh recruitments, the cases of dual nationals will be carefully examined but the government has yet to decide regarding those dual nationality holders occupying the government jobs.
The government is also considering to bring a policy for installing new gas connections, which had created controversy during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government. The agreement on Saindak project would be revisited on expiry of the contract in 2022.
